Did anyone ever tell you: “You need an ‘elevator pitch’”?
Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever talked to anyone I didn’t already know in an elevator. Never have I had to make a last-minute pitch to a potential client or employer while riding the lift 10 flights down. The whole phrase “elevator pitch” feels from another time – like when my partner Ben (70 years old at heart) said, “…like a fire bell in the night,” and we all stared at him like he had three heads.
Still, it’s important to be able to say what it is that you do, concisely and clearly and with actual confidence.
Not necessarily because you’ll only have 45 seconds of someone’s attention, but because if you want more of their attention, you’ll need to make a compelling case for yourself.
Artists and multi-hyphenates often struggle to share what they offer in a succinct and compelling way.
They might be multi-passionate people, who wear many hats and hold several jobs. Or they might wrestle with jargon someone on the outside of their industry just won’t understand.
My winning formula will help you streamline these competing priorities and focus your pitch.
IT’S JUST 3 THINGS:
What Others Gain From Your Work
Your Superpower
The Actual Thing You Do
So, if I’m crafting my own pitch, I’ll say that what others gain from working with our team is a sense of structure and relief. Less stress and more ease in their marketing and promotion of what they do.
One of our superpowers is taking longterm, lofty objectives and turning them into manageable to-do lists. Why do I know this? Clients told us so. Ask for testimonials or look through reviews or ask a bunch of your friends and family what they think your superpowers are!
And the actual thing we do? We offer digital marketing strategy. We guide website redesigns. We offer copywriting and content advice. We create email marketing systems that automate important offers and messages. We plan for marketing in advance and hold you accountable to that plan.
So after all that consideration, here’s our pitch:
We provide structure to arts and nonprofit marketing, making your communications more effective and less stressful to produce. Our team’s ability to break down big picture goals into bite-sized, actionable steps relieves the pressure to do everything and helps you prioritize and plan what’s important and essential. Our team consults on all things digital – from website design to email campaigns to social media marketing.
