Mistakes You Might Make in Your Marketing
We work with a lot of artists, writers, and consultants…
These folks have larger mission behind the work they do — i.e. they don’t create for creativity’s sake, they create for connection, health, wellness, joy, enlightenment, equity, etc.
The great thing about working in a field you’re passionate about, and having a larger vision for the impact you’re having in the world, is that your purpose becomes a motivator in your day-to-day.
There are drawbacks, too, of course. The obvious being a higher propensity for burn-out. The less obvious being:
- Mistakenly feeling that your work is for everyone (an inability to pinpoint your best-fit audience), because it could benefit everyone
- A sense of personal disappointment when things don’t go as planned (having lots of #feelings about your work)
- Having an easier time communicating the why, and less clarity communicating the how or the “why you” (not feeling comfortable speaking to your unique value proposition in addition to the positive impact you have)
- Or, on the flip side, making assumptions that people already know why your work is important (when really, you need to remind them)
All of these drawbacks can show up in your marketing (or lack thereof)…
